Summary: Based on a game from the neo romance romance simulation series.

The Hoshisou High School has a tradition of two different classes. They are separated into ordinary classes and music classes.

One day, the second-year student Kahoko Hino, who applies the ordinary classes, meets Lily, the music fairy, who gives her a magic violin. Afterwards she is being nominated for a music contest in the school.

Thus her step into the music world begins as she interacts with the other contestants. The whereabouts of love, friendship, and the contest that surrounds all of it but also rivalry and intrigue, all of that awaits her before she can finally reach her new found dream.

Music is a theme that I always sort of enjoyed while watching an anime. I've seen jeweleries in terms of music like Nana, a show that revolved mostly around music. Nodame Cantabile was a great refresher mainly because of its tasteful comedy, and I also seen Beck, a very well thought show, having more similarities with Nana, focusing on almost the same music type, unlike Nodame Cantabile that went on the classical music.

La Corda D'Oro has two focuses. On one hand, the main lead Hino Kahoko is forced to enter in a music competition even though she does not know how to play an instrument. Helped by a music fairy named Lili who gives her a magical violin she immediately catches the attention of everyone around her, especially of her challengers, which are already know for their musical talent. This task will prove to be very demanding and tiring for her as she struggles with her own conscience whether to continue playing and deceiving her new made friends.

On the other hand, she enters in a love polygon. Even though she is not the only girl in the group, most of the contestants are males. One by one they start to get enchanted by Hino however not many of them will have the guts to tell her how they feel, or if they do, they do it so that she can't realize it.

Like most of the reverse harem shows, this one has the same scenario and nothing goes beyond its own made boundaries. The first half of the show is actually the most important and probably has the best moments. Encouraged by Lily, Hino participates in the contest making a good impression in front of the audience, even though she wasn't really the one playing.

The second part becomes rather melodramatic, as Hino starts to hate deceiving her friends while they are doing their best with their own powers. Seeing them performing without any tricks definitely loads her conscience with thoughts.

With one thing I do agree, winning something with deceitful meanings does not bring satisfaction at all. It is more likely to bring self hatred and depression, depending on the characters of each person. Hino proves to be what I already mentioned.

The second half of the show focuses more on her trying to master the violin as she claims that she started to love playing it and the romance aspect becomes more predominant. While each lead tries to contribute with anything in order to help her, Hino still does not see the main reason why her rivals try that hard for her.

Story-wise this show is not that interesting, it's very easy to figure out the outcome without much thought, especially in a reverse harem type of show. Character-wise, this show shines brightest since in my opinion, reverse harem shows focus a lot more on character development than any other type of shows.

Art-wise, pretty impressive. While the character designs and backgrounds are not out of common again I have to send my gratitude to the producers and author for showing off a nice sense of fashion. Once again, beautifully drawn outfits, clothes that have a very nice fashion taste, even though they do not appear too often.

All in all, La Corda D'Oro is the type of romance, once again, for idiots. Annoying after the first part with its melodrama, but pleasing with visuals and sound, opinions about it might contradict. Fans that are looking for a show with classical music will not be disappointed in this one, even though I think that Nodame Cantabile is a far better one. Romance lovers will also enjoy this one as well, too bad it does not have a conclusion in this aspect. Far from being a masterpiece, but good for a first watch.
